Within the Lasallian community, Singapore institutions and entities belong to the Lasallian East Asia District (LEAD). In addition to Singapore, the other countries in LEAD include Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines and Thailand. Brother Visitor is the major superior for all De La Salle Brothers within LEAD.
In Singapore, the Christian Brothers’ Schools Visitor Ordinance 1915 was enacted by the Governor of the Straits Settlements to incorporate the Brother Visitor as a corporate body. The Brother Visitor is responsible for overseeing the Lasallian schools in Singapore, including allowing the Brother Visitor to hold and manage property and visit and inspect schools.
Roles and Responsibilities of Brother Visitor
The Brother Visitor oversees the governance of LEAD, ensuring that its schools, institutions and ministries are operating effectively to fulfil the Lasallian mission aligned with the Lasallian principles and in compliance with Canon Law. He also provides strategic direction for LEAD, working with the District Council and other stakeholders to set goals and priorities. He makes regular visits to Lasallian schools, institutions and ministries in LEAD to stay connected and provide support to the De La Salle Brothers and Lasallian communities.
